The Humble Home

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love small homes (small is defined as anything under 3000sf). I am often surprised by the number of people I meet who feel that they need to apologize for the size of their homes! It's hard for me to believe that they are missing the genuine beauty and comfort of their homes. To me, the homes aren't "small" they are quite humbly "appropriate". This is not to suggest that don't' require a bit bit of tweaking here and there, but those of use who live in such abodes should not consider ourselves cave dwellers ("Don't look at us, we're hideous!"). A dear friend of mine once asked me if I had a million dollars just thrown in my lap, wouldn't I succumb to the lure of the "McMansion"? The answer: "NO WAY!!" I'd take the money and modestly add on to my existing home (I'd love a larger kitchen and master bathroom!), upgrade my home to be more energy efficient and have plenty of money left over for fabulous vacations (or college tuition for my two children)!

My humble 1500 square foot(snow covered)home.

So, my friends, this blog is a celebration of beautiful, efficient and gloriously appropriate living spaces as well as anything else design related I fancy. If any of you out there have design dilemmas that you need help with or have ideas or photos you'd like to share, please feel free to do so!
